A coalition of organizations and individuals from the 96744 zip code area (Kaneohe to Kualoa) that envisions a community where substance abuse is minimized and youth and their families effectively utilize community resources to support healthy lifestyles. Community members are invited to join the Community Works in 96744 group to help (1) set a positive example for youth; (2) practice a healthy lifestyle; and (3) acknowledge that alcohol, tobacco and other drug use is inappropriate in public places such as parks, schools and athletic events. Stromberg was in Hawaii recently to speak at a Hazelden conference for addiction treatment professionals, and visited the Hina Mauka treatment center in Kaneohe, where he shared his experiences in recovery with clients and staff. The moving and entertaining 45 minute talk he gave can be seen on Olelo Channel 52, March 9 at 9:30 PM, March 11 at 1:30 PM, March 16 at 9:30 PM, and March 18 at 4:30 PM. A senior health insurance information and assistance counseling program sponsored by the State Executive Office on Aging in cooperation with Moiliili Community Center and Lanakila Community Center, was established to inform and assist senior citizens in matters concerning health insurance: Medicare, Medicare Supplemental Health Insurance, Long Term Care Insurance and Medicaid. Volunteers have undergone extensive training to offer one-on-one health insurance counseling free of charge. Volunteers are available islandwide.
