About the Kiwanis Club of Kaneohe

The Kaneohe Kiwanis Club was chartered August 29, 1959....

The name Kiwanis comes from an American Indian term meaning "to Build," and is a metaphor for a constructive way of life. Like the Christophers, we believe "it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness."

As a service organization we are dedicated to helping others, with an emphasis on youth.

By sponsoring and supporting Key Clubs at Castle and Sacred Hearts High Schools, and a K-Kid Club at Kaneohe Elementary School we encourage the next generation to respect God and Country, and to discover the joy of serving others.

Each one of us is part of a worldwide movement helping to make the world a healthier and safer place for families. When working together, both the young and the 'young at heart' find fellowship in service, and ideas becoming realities.

(Left to Right) Mr. William Maxwell (Kaneohe Kiwanis Member and Castle Key Club Teacher Adviser), Justin Sugai (Castle Key Club President), and Major George Rodriguera (Salvation Army and Honolulu Kiwanis Club) Castle Key Club raised $60 from its members and challenged our Kaneohe Kiwanis Club to match it (we did, $200.00) for purchasing the food for the Salvation Army's Thanksgiving Day meals for the needy. (Total = $260.00) Service clubs at Sacred Hearts Academy enable students to reach out to the community and gain responsibility. These clubs provide students with opportunities to become influential leaders in their local environment. Academy club presidents work with presidents of civic organizations on future projects. To obliterate IDD around the world, we....

help to raise funds in a variety of ways. Iodine Defiency Disorder is caused by a lack of iodine. This in turn causes mental and physical impairment. We can rid the world of IDD with a simple solution; adding iodine to table salt. Our partners in this endeavor is Morton Salt, Unicef and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Look on Morton Salt boxes for Kiwanis logo!
