This section explains what was accomplished in the Bight Kicker Jigs design process.

Don Baker, Founder of Bight Kicker Jigs, has an extensive Sportfishing background. Vast fishing knowledge is detrimental when it comes to developing a productive fishing lure. When the design process was started he wanted to implement several features into Bight Kicker Jigs, they included, an active baitfish swimming action, durability, consistency, realistic colors, a user friendly product, universal applications and most of all, a very productive Jig! Please read the desciptions below.

Swimming Action
The design process started with the swimming action. Baitfish and gamefish feeding on baitfish were studied extensively for this feature. We are convinced that the way a Jig swims in the water is the most important aspect in any fishing lure. Color and size also come into play, but if a lure does not swim properly to begin with, the color and size are immaterial. The swimming action must "turn on" the feeding instinct of the fish, when this happens, the fish will strike the Jig! The personality of a baitfish changes dramatically when a predator is chasing or near a baitfish. The Baitfish becomes extremely active and apprehensive, that active swimming action is what we reproduced in our Jig design. Additionally, Bight Kicker Jigs sink effectively, the design flutters back and forth while sinking. A lot of times a fish will strike the Jig as it is sinking. The effective sinking action is due to the precise weight balance of the Jig design.

Durability
We were in pursuit of a quality product in every aspect, so durability was also on the list. It is frustrating to an angler to buy a lure, catch a few fish on it, then have to buy a new one due to premature wear and tear. With terminal tackle wear and tear is imminent, but we extended the longevity of Bight Kicker Jigs. Extensive research was performed with different paints and in the end we developed our own unique process for our finishes. Our Textured Finish Series and Smooth Finish Series are very durable and somewhat chip resistant. Note: You can further the longevity of your Jigs by rinsing them off with fresh water when returning home from your fishing trips.

A consistent Jig is something every Fisherman can appreciate. We're sure you've gone out and purchased a lure and it worked pretty good. Realistic Baitfish Colors
As we mentioned earlier, extensive baitfish research was performed within the developmental process. What we discovered is that baitfish are almost like chameleons, in that they change color in different environments and situations. For example, if a bait was caught inshore in green water that bait will have green characteristics . If a bait was caught offshore in blue water it will have blue characteristics. With that being said, Bight Fishing Products developed an extensive line of proven color patterns

User Friendly
Bight Kicker Jigs are designed so efficiently that any angler can have great success with our Jigs. We found that other lures can be somewhat effective, but there is a certain technique that must be used to make those lures productive. Bight Fishing Products designed Bight Kicker Jigs to be utilized by any angler. Simply cast out the Jig, retrieve it and let the Jig itself do all the work for you. Bight Kicker Jigs are very easy to use and designed for any angler, from the beginner to the professional. Note: There are some techniques that can be applied in conjunction with our Jigs to make them even more attractive. Your retrieve speed can be varied to entice even the most finicky gamefish. Additionally, an erratic retrieve can be very effective in certain situations. This is performed by reeling the lure very fast, then slowing down, then fast again, etc., it typically drives the fish crazy!

Universal Applications
Bight Kicker Jigs have endless applications. The product was designed to be used in Saltwater, as well as, in Freshwater. Numerous species of fish have been caught on our Jigs. Here's a list of Saltwater species: Yellowfin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, Albacore, Yellowtail, Barracuda, Bonita, Red Snapper, Different species of Rockfish, Halibut, Lingcod, Dorado, Wahoo, Calico Bass, Sand Bass, Striped Bass, White Seabass, Cabrilla, Roosterfish, Salmon, King Mackerel, Amberjack and Grouper to name a few. Here's a list of Freshwater species: Striped Bass, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Pike, Muskie, Walleye, Salmon and Lake Trout to name a few. Virtually any gamefish will strike Bight Kicker Jigs!

Don Baker shown with a 210 lb.Marlin that was the largest Striped Marlin caught off the California Coast in 1985. It ate a live mackerel rigged with 25lb. main line and a 100lb. leader. The action took place on the 172, an offshore high spot between Catalina Island and Santa Barbara Island. The battle lasted 3 ½ hours and he said this marlin was unbelievably strong. (note the girth of the fish) He also added that his Dad was just as responsible for the catch, he had to maneuver the boat throughout the entire battle which is not an easy process with a feisty one. They boated the fish at dusk and it was Don's first billfish, so it was kept for mounting purposes. They now release all Marlin that are caught on his boat.

Don has invented one of the most productive metal Jigs available, Bight Kicker Jigs! 2 years were invested into designing the lures. He wanted a swimming action that imitated an active baitfish, one that worked efficiently at virtually any retrieve speed and a durable finish. This was a very timely process, it was a lot of hard work and a whole bunch of research and development. He finally perfected the Jig in 1997 and now owns a United States Patent on his Jig design. Don combined his many years of Sportfishing experience and invented a Jig that fish go absolutely crazy over! He says,

This instinct comes from dedicating several years of your life to fishing, watching gamefish in action and studying their feeding habits."

Bight Fishing Products granted United States Patent
5/9/2000 Huntington Beach, CA Bight Fishing Products announced they have acquired a United States Patent on their line of fishing lures, Bight Kicker Jigs. The product is Patented for an article of manufacture as a New and Original design fishing lure. The Patent grants Bight Fishing Products the rights to exclude others from manufacturing, making or using the design throughout the United States of America, as well as, importing and/or exporting the design into or out of the United States of America. The company made the move to protect several years of research and development that went into the product. Bight Fishing Products is granted the Patent for a term of 14 years.
